The Exotic Fruit Section (2026)​

A cold storage chapel with poetic essay film.

An intergenerational approach on the longing for a decolonised origin and authenticity. It questions themes of belonging, potential and growth, and the global imbalanced neocolonial distribution of produce and soil fertility flux.

Here, frozen isolated exotics long for the rich warm flavour of an unfulfilled potential, of growth from a grounded home.

 

This chapel is outlined with matt semitransparent PVC strip curtains, you would normally find in food wholesalers to partition cold tropical produce. Plotted in a cross the abstracted architecture represents the christian construct and extractive cultivation of produce my ancestral tribe chose to abide by to survive. The altar holds a wide video screen, showing an essayistic and poetic film scored with synthesisers and my voice. It narrates non-linearly, lyrically, poetically and at times descriptively, in associated fragments. Turning in loops and curls into one whole.

In its constellation of filmic fragments, a longing for decolonized roots is tangible. (...) imported produce that can no longer hold meaning for the land from which it originates.
